“I regard the theatre as the greatest of art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” – Oscar Wilde
The last few weeks have been extremely difficult for our community, our country and our world. Things here at the Longmont Theatre Company have been challenging as well. This time of year, our “happy place” as we refer to the our historic 300 seat theatre, would typically be bustling with friends and family from Longmont, Estes Park, Fort Collins, Denver, Boulder, Niwot and out of town visitors congregating to share in the wonderful live theatre stage productions or a movie on our new big screen. The May musical is always the largest production of the year with the biggest cast and crew, and the most successful ticket sales of our Season – or the ‘money maker’. Our community of performing artists and stage crew would be singing and dancing, having costumes fittings, designing the set, searching flea markets for show props, and people painting scenery. Our staff and volunteers would be taking phone calls for ticket sales, stocking concession inventory, laughing with people who stopped in to share the positive energy that flows as we get ready for the next show. People absorbing the energy of creativity.
And now, we need your help. Quickly, everything changed. The theatre is quiet. Ticket sales support 75% of our operating costs while other income is from concession sales, a few grants, and SCFD funding. And now, there are no ticket sales. We are a nonprofit organization and most everyone involved at the theatre are volunteers.
For 63 years, Longmont Theatre has been bringing award winning live theatre to the Longmont community. We need your help. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to support Longmont Theatre Company during closings due to COVID-19. Thank you.
